Delays Xi -

Having grown up with dyslexia, I struggled hugely at school and what was even harder was trying to make people understand how dyslexia effected my learning. Many would not understand and would consider me lazy or stupid. These comments would then make me feel - what was the point in trying, if that is what people already thought.
This project, hopes to create awareness to others that dyslexics' learn differently, due to their brains forming slightly differently. This does not make them stupid. Personally I learnt a lot more about being dyslexic from creating this project. I had always been told I had it and never investigated into how dyslexia effects and works in our brains.
Finding out that dyslexics' actually have bigger brains, emphasizing that they are not any less smart.
The photographs focus on showing how dyslexia looks in every day life experience, while also contrasting with insults that are regularly heard growing up and have experienced being said to me or others, these photographs contrast the insults with something that is considered beautiful. The idea behind this, to represent how these insults can effect a person with dyslexia, stopping them from being the best of themselves.
The work creates awareness on how insults can effect people with learning disabilities in many ways. The combination of these along side everyday connections to the disability emphasizes the important of understanding and encouraging those that struggle or learn differently to others. They have skills in other areas which should be highlighted and respected.
